Hakim Molina is a French drummer. He has Spanish origins
on his father’s side and American origins on his mother’s. He was born in
Algeria in 1964 and arrived in France a year later. He was brought up by his
father’s parents and grew up in this uprooted family, imbued with Mediterranean
culture.
An uncle who played the guitar and was admired by the whole family, a grand-mother
who cooked and sang, spicy smells and Spanish songs, a youth bathed in rock
and then jazz … Hakim nourished himself with these mixed cultures and his
music bears all these influences.
Since 1989 drums have been his way of expression. He has met artists from
all horizons, taken part in artistic projects with musicians from different
musical backgrounds. In 2003, he broadened his musical range by entering the
CMDL music school (Didier Lockwood Music Center) in Paris where he perfected
his skills and also met musicians as famous as Mocktar Samba (Ultramarine),
Dominique Di Piazza (John McLaughlin), André Charlier (Charlier – Sourisse).
In 2006, he created HTM, his first personal group with Jean-Michel Charbonnel
(double-bass) and Jean-Baptiste Gaudray (guitar). Those three intuitive musicians
with different personalities produced spontaneous, dynamic, subtle jazz music.
Now, Hakim Molina performs with his new group "AKASAM",
with Jean-Noël Le Tennier (saxophone), Hervé Sicard (bass), Nicolas Noël (piano).
This group sounds like an original playground where personal compositions
and fusion jazz mix themselves. This music is meant to be airy, colorful,
and somewhat melancholic. Thanks to the talent of Hakim Molina’s three musicians
and friends, the music reveals and enhances the atmosphere of Hakim’s childhood
and the culture of his origins.
